URBAN SDG
KNOWLEDGE PLATFORM

+ INTRODUCTION TO THE PLATFORM

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Seoul Metropolitan Government and CityNet have established the Urban SDG Knowledge Platform to promote and support knowledge sharing and city-to-city cooperation for sustainable urban development.

Collaborative efforts and city-to-city cooperation can go a long way in enabling cities to develop and adopt innovative solutions to shared challenges. For this, innovation in urban policy, programming and planning is needed, as well as improved financing and enhanced capacity and knowledge. Fortunately, many cities across the world are developing new models, innovative policies and emerging practices that advance sustainable development.

The Urban SDG Knowledge Platform supports local action for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including up-take and replication of successful initiatives and good practices, by: Providing a repository of policies, initiatives and good practices at the city level by municipal governments and other stakeholders; Facilitating north-south, south-south, and triangular cooperation by linking cities that have developed specific policies, initiatives and good practices with other cities interested in learning from and replicating them; and, Facilitating regional follow-up and review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by providing a platform for local governments to share progress and lessons learned.

The Urban SDG Knowledge Platforms policy repository consists of policies and practices implemented by member cities. Members share implementation strategies, challenges faced and key success factors to facilitate knowledge sharing and replication of successful and innovative initiatives. Policies are organized by theme and SDG. You can search for policies by theme, SDG, or by entering keywords in the search box below.
